Mojamer Joins the DevGAMM Awards 2025 Jury

This time, MOJAM gets a unique chance to peek behind the curtain of the indie gaming world. These are the very projects created by independent teams without the backing of major publishers. There are thousands of such works out there and many go unnoticed, but hidden among them are true diamonds.

Our teammate was invited to join the jury of this year’s DevGAMM Awards — one of the most prestigious honors in indie game development. WOW level unlocked! So, let’s take a backstage look at how the best games are selected and what makes them stand out.

Sasha shared what he looks for in games, why it matters, and which projects could become the next legends. If you recognize even one of his favorite indie discoveries, congrats — you’re part of the rare 1% of true indie fans.

DevGAMM Awards: Prestige and Scale

You’ve probably heard of Manor Lords, the medieval strategy hit that won the Grand Prize at DevGAMM Awards 2024, which became a springboard for its global success. The jury’s decision meant more than recognition: it gave the developer financial support and confidence that millions would see the game.

Other winners include The Wandering Village, Gripper, Sunset Hills, Röki, and many more.

This year, new heroes will take the stage. The event kicks off on November 7 in Lisbon, with a prize pool of over $100,000 — a true lifeline for indie studios trying to stand out in a crowded market.

“DevGAMM is more than just an event. It’s a space where pros share knowledge and where games can get funding for development with no strings attached. That’s rare and truly valuable.”

How to Join the Jury and What Comes Next

Sasha revealed a few secrets about becoming a DevGAMM judge:

“The DevGAMM jury includes only experienced game dev professionals — those with at least five years in the industry, published releases, or expertise in production, game design, marketing, or QA.
Before the competition starts, each judge signs an NDA since all materials and demos remain confidential. For me, this invitation isn’t just a role — it’s recognition of our team’s expertise and a chance to support games that truly deserve to be seen.”

The Judging Process: From 35 to the Final 5

The evaluation happens in three stages:

  • Round 1 — Initial screening of 35+ games based on trailers and materials.
  • Round 2 — Judges personally play around 20 games and provide detailed feedback.
  • Final Round — Selection of the best projects that will receive recognition and support.

“It’s awesome that decisions are made by dozens of judges with diverse backgrounds. It guarantees fairness and helps highlight projects that really deserve attention.”

Is There a “Golden Formula” for an Indie Hit?

A unique mechanic like Lethal Company? Or a clever genre twist like Among Us? Maybe just add anime characters to the title? The truth is — there’s no secret recipe. Everyone’s got their tastes. What matters most is that the game hooks you.

“I’m hooked either by fantastic gameplay or a deep story — ideally both. Everything else is just icing on the cake.”

Insider Picks for the 1% of Gamers

Especially for MOJAM readers, Sasha shared his personal indie favorites. If you’ve heard of these, you’re definitely in the top 1% of gamers who spot hidden gems early.

Dredge — “One of the most strangely calming games I’ve ever played. You’re fishing in a world that slowly reveals its Lovecraftian horrors. Whether you catch a regular cod or a cursed creature from the stars — that’s up to you.

Slay the Princess — “It’s almost impossible to describe without spoilers. You have one task — kill the princess, or the world ends. It’s one of the most mind-blowing stories I’ve ever seen in a game.

What It Means for MOJAM

We believe our teammates’ participation in such events isn’t just a personal win — it reflects the expertise of the whole company. MOJAM builds products for millions of gamers around the globe, and when our people contribute to shaping the future of gaming, it inspires the entire team to aim even higher.

“Being the voice that can give a new project a chance — that’s a way to impact the industry in a positive direction. How cool is that?”
